Aya group backs self employment project.
Aya Group of Companies has trained and handed over baking materials to 400 women in Mpigi District as part of a drive to encourage self employment in the country. The group, which teamed up with Twezimbe Development Association, gave the assortment of items which included 24 kilogrammes of baking flour, baking powder, one litre of cooking oil, a frying pan, a board and rolling stick charcoal stove with stand abasing and an apron.
Group Chairman Mohammad Hamid said, “The items will enable the beneficiaries to make a net profit of Shs40,000 daily, translating into Shs1.2 million a month and a whooping Shs14 million a year and this can lead to the generation of Shs5.7 billion equity to the sub counties.”
Mr Hamid said a considerable transformation of lives of people in the area is assured as there is no condition of paying back. “Many able-bodied youth are marauding in the city, smoking marijuana and doing all sorts of things. We at Aya, saw it so prudent to come up with this project and uplift the standards of living of Mawokota people, and Ugandans in general,” he said.
Ms Amelia Kyambadde, the Principal Personal Secretary of the President, urged the beneficiaries save money from the proceeds of business which they will use to start other new businesses.
“Now that you have got everything you need to start a business, get books of accounts so that you can balance your business and also make sure that the hygiene of the business meets the standards,” she said.
